Welcome to the Seychelles Islands:
The Republic of Seychelles consists of over 116 islands scattered in the middle of the equatorial area of the Western Indian Ocean.The Seychelles archipelago is divided into two sections:
Mahe and the outlying islands group (43 in all), and the coralline group of 73 islands or more.
The principal island Mahe lies between 4 degrees south latitude and 55 degrees east longitude.
It is 27 km long and 11kms wide rising abruptly from sea level to an altitude of 905 meters.
Two other islands of major importance as regards to size and population are Praslin, 33 km from Mahe, and home to the unique “Coco de Mer”, and La Digue 48 km away.
Situated 1,580 km East of Mombasa, 1,490 km North of Mauritius, 1,000 km North-East of Madagascar and 2,800 km South of Bombay widely dispersed over 400,000 square kilometers of the Indian Ocean makes the Seychelles strategically located allowing it to enjoy a favorable tropical climate in a cyclone free zone. It can thus be aptly described as a sprinkling of islands.
